The takeaway is simple: 12 cm is the universal number. Almost any robot fits, with margin left for rugs and for the settling that happens over years. Under 9 cm the robot stalls, circles the piece, and the dust underneath stays there for good.

How to check your own home in a minute

1. Measure the robot. Not the box — the highest point, usually the lidar turret. On retractable-lidar models measure it deployed, not folded.
2. Measure the clearance. Floor to the lowest part: not the drawer bottom but the lower edge of the rail, plinth or stretcher if there is one.
3. Add 2 cm. For rugs, thresholds, and the fact that a robot enters at an angle and lifts for a moment.

If the difference is under a centimetre the robot will squeeze in, rub the body and wear the edge over time. Better a piece with obvious margin than one that just barely fits.

What stops a robot besides height

A solid plinth. The piece sits flat on the floor, no clearance at all.
A table centre column or cross base. Corner legs get driven around, a cross in the middle does not.
A low bed frame. The headboard may stand on tall legs while the frame sits almost on the floor.
Cables behind the TV unit. The robot winds up an extension cord and stops. High legs do not fix this, lift the cables into a channel.
A sofa skirt. Fabric to the floor reads as a wall to the sensors, but the robot drives into it and bogs down.
A deep-pile rug under the piece. It eats 1–2 cm of the clearance you measured on tile.

What to pick, room by room

Living room. A TV unit on metal legs or wall-mounted, a display cabinet on high legs, a coffee table supported at the corners.
Bedroom. A bed with clearance under the frame, and wall-mounted bedside tables that never touch the floor. More dust gathers under a bed than anywhere else, and that is where people clean least often.
Dining area. A table on corner legs rather than a central pedestal. More crumbs land under the dining table than under any other piece.
Entrance hall. A wall-mounted sideboard leaves the floor completely free: in a narrow corridor that is the only way to give a robot room to turn.
Study. A desk with no lower rail, and a pedestal unit on the same legs or the point is lost.

Wall-mounted furniture is the extreme case

There is nothing under a wall-mounted piece: no legs, no shadows, no corners the robot cannot reach. The floor is crossed in one pass and a mopping robot runs it without stopping. There is one limitation and it concerns the wall. The factory supplies fixings for concrete or solid brick. Plasterboard needs backing, fitted before hanging — it cannot be corrected later without taking the piece down.

What will not work, however good it looks

Classic pieces on a solid plinth, furniture on one- or two-centimetre plastic feet, beds with a lifting mechanism and a storage box, floor-to-ceiling sliding wardrobes, sofas with a fabric skirt. None of it is here on purpose — not because it is worse, but because a robot will not pass under it. Wardrobes are left out too: almost all of them sit on a low plinth by construction.

Why Polish factories moved to legs

You can see it in our own catalogue: of more than a hundred Polish collections, twenty-seven are built on a tall metal or turned wooden leg, and nearly all of them are recent. Ten years ago furniture sat on a solid plinth because it was cheaper and looked more substantial. Today a robot vacuum lives in the house, followed by mopping robots and self-emptying docks that need floor space of their own, so factories started lifting the body. The leg stopped being decoration and became a function. The look changed with it: furniture on legs reads lighter, the room feels larger, and you can see the floor under the piece — which works even in a small flat.

Frequently asked

How much clearance does a robot vacuum need?
From 12 cm — practically every model fits. From 10 cm only slim premium robots with a retractable lidar will pass.

Will the robot get under a bed?
Look at the frame, not the legs. A bed can stand on tall legs while its rail drops almost to the floor. A bed with a storage box is sealed.

Can I just screw legs onto furniture I already own?
You can, legs are sold separately. But a body designed for a plinth does not always take point loading, and the factory warranty does not cover that change.

How much weight does a wall-mounted sideboard hold?
It depends on the fixings and the wall. The factory supplies hardware for concrete or solid brick. Plasterboard needs backing — the fitter handles it.

Do thin metal legs confuse a robot?
No. Sensors read a leg as an obstacle and drive around it. What actually causes trouble is cables and the low fabric skirts of sofas.

What if I already own furniture on a plinth?
The robot will simply drive around it. Dust under a plinth is not sealed out — it works its way in from the sides.

Is furniture on legs less stable?
At the same width, slightly — the centre of gravity is higher. Tall display cabinets come with wall fixings, and they should be used if there are children in the house.

Can the legs be removed if I do not need a robot?
On most collections the leg comes off, but it is a bad idea: without it the body rests on a base not designed to carry it.

Can wall-mounted furniture go on any wall?
Concrete and solid brick, yes — fixings are included. Plasterboard only with backing, and that has to be decided before installation.

How long is delivery?
The lead time is on each product page and depends on the factory. Some pieces ship from stock in Israel, others are ordered from Poland.
