A corner desk gives more working surface than a straight one of the same width, while freeing the middle of the room.

For computer work a top shallower than 60 cm is usually not enough: the monitor ends up too close to the eyes. A corner model solves this without enlarging the room, because the depth is gained across the diagonal of the corner while the desk stays narrow along the walls.
