Flow filters: water straight away, with no tank
A flow filter is the compromise that most often turns out to be right: filtration is markedly better than a jug, and it needs a fraction of the space osmosis does.
How it differs from osmosis
Water passes through several cartridges in sequence and goes straight to the tap. There is no membrane, no storage tank and nothing running to the drain. Three consequences follow: the system occupies a narrow slot at the side under the sink, the water never runs out or waits for a tank to fill, and nothing is wasted.
The price is filtration depth. A flow filter removes chlorine, organics, particles and taste, but hardness salts stay in the water, so limescale in the kettle will not go away. If that is precisely the aim, what you need is reverse osmosis.
Replacement modules
Crystal systems use modules K2, K5 and K7. They are changed as a set rather than singly: the stages work in sequence, and leaving an old cartridge next to a new one cancels out the work of the new ones. Sets are in Replacement cartridges.
A flow filter suits a rented flat better than osmosis. It fits and comes off without altering the sink, takes little room and leaves with you. Osmosis with a tank and a separate tap makes sense where you plan to stay for years.
