Console: a narrow table along the wall

Consoles in Israel: 30 to 40 cm deep, some fold out
A console is a table that solves the problem of depth. Where an ordinary table will not go because it would eat the walkway, a console takes 30 to 40 cm and stays out of the way.
Where it goes
| Place | What it does there |
|---|---|
| In the hallway | For keys, post and a bag. A mirror hangs above it, a basket or pouf tucks underneath. |
| Behind a sofa | If the sofa is not against a wall, a console covers its back and gives a surface for a lamp and a cup. |
| Along a blank wall | In a corridor or living room, as a surface for decor when a full cabinet would be too bulky. |
Folding consoles
Some models in this section open into a dining table. Closed, it is a narrow console along the wall; open, a full table for several people. A model like that makes sense in a small flat where a table is needed twice a week but the walkway is needed every day. Both sizes are on the product page, and the one to check is the open size.
A console usually stands about 75 to 80 cm high, the same as a table. If you hang a mirror above it, leave 20 to 25 cm between the top and the bottom edge of the mirror: any closer and the mirror reflects the console rather than the person looking into it.
What is nearby
Folding console tables are also gathered in Console tables. If you need a surface for a television rather than decor, see TV stands. The hallway has its own section, Hallways.
