Wooden dining tables: solid, veneer and what lies between
The word «wooden» covers three different things in this market, and the difference between them shows not in the shop but five years later.
Three levels of «wood»

Which applies to a given model is stated on its page. You cannot tell solid from veneer in a photograph, and that is by design: veneer exists precisely so that it looks the same.
What wood dislikes
Water standing on the seams and along the edge, and heat placed straight on the surface. A cup set on lacquered wood without a mat leaves a whitish ring that only comes out by sanding back. With a damp cloth, lacquer lives quite happily. In an Israeli flat the sun is added to the list: within a few years the finish beside a window fades unevenly, and the difference between the lit and shaded parts becomes visible.
An extendable wooden table has a quirk that board does not. The leaf does not sit in the table all the time, and wood responds to humidity. After a couple of years the insert can turn out slightly lighter than the rest of the top simply because it lived in the dark. That is not a defect, and to avoid it the table is opened from time to time even without guests.
