Why it beats hooks on the wall
Wall hooks mean drilling, which is not always possible in a rented flat. A stand goes up and comes down without a trace, moves with you and asks nothing of the wall. It also gives volume: a coat hangs freely and dries rather than pressing its wet back against the wall.
About stability
There is a trap here that is easy to miss. Stability depends not on the weight of the base but on how the clothes are hung. Three heavy coats on one hook tip the post to one side and over it goes. So load the stand evenly around the circle, and if that is unrealistic, take a model with a wide base or with shelves at the bottom: weight down low acts as ballast.
On a tiled floor it is worth putting a pad under a metal base. A coat stand gets moved more often than any other piece in the hallway, and without a pad it scratches the tiles within the first month.
