Children wardrobes: so the child can reach

Children wardrobes in Israel: hinged and corner
A child wardrobe differs from an adult one in a single respect: the child has to be able to reach what is inside. Otherwise an adult puts the clothes away, and does so for ten years.
The height that settles everything
A preschooler reaches roughly 110 to 120 cm, a young schoolchild 130 to 140. Anything above that does not exist for them. So in a child wardrobe the lower rail hangs low, and the top shelf is given over to seasonal things an adult fetches twice a year.
The practical conclusion: drawers at the bottom work better than shelves. A shelf requires lifting a stack out and putting it back square; a drawer only needs pulling open. A child uses whatever does not demand neatness.
What the section holds
| Type | What to allow for |
|---|---|
| Hinged | The main type. The door needs room in front of it; check it does not hit the bed or the desk. |
| Corner | Takes the corner that would otherwise be wasted. In a child room that is often the only space left. |
| With open bays | Part of the carcass without a door, for books and toys. You can see what is inside, so it gets tidied more willingly. |
| From a collection | A wardrobe sharing its decor with the bed and desk, from the modular children collections. |
A tall child wardrobe is fixed to the wall as a requirement, not an option. The child opens the bottom drawer, stands on it and reaches up, and at that moment the centre of gravity moves forward. The bracket is usually in the box; the plug to suit your wall is bought separately.
