Coffee table SCH-01 with a scalloped edge, dark wood

A table 120 by 60 cm standing 48 cm high in a dark brown finish. Its signature is the edge of the top: it runs in a wave of small scallops around the whole perimeter, which keeps a rectangular table from looking severe. A second plane runs beneath the top as a full-length shelf.

How it is made. Four turned legs in the form of balusters with collars stand at the corners and pass through the lower shelf, tying both levels together. The ends of the shelf are rounded in a half circle, and its outline repeats the line of the top. The finish is matt and even, with the grain showing softly through.

Worth knowing. A height of 48 cm comes close to armrest level on low sofas, which helps when the table is used for a laptop as well as coffee. The shelf is open and usually holds a stack of books or a basket. The scalloped edge gathers dust on its inner side and is gone over with a dry brush.

What it stands with. Dark wood with turned legs belongs with a classic living room and carved furniture. The round version of the same line, SCH-03, is built on the same two-level principle and is taken as a companion when a second table is needed by an armchair.
