A desk for work or homework is usually needed by a date: the start of the school year, a move to working from home, a house move. These are the models there is no need to wait for.
Depth matters more than width
A monitor needs at least 60 cm of depth: the screen should sit an arm length away, or the eyes tire sooner than the back does. A laptop manages on 50 cm. A width of 120 cm is the working minimum for a monitor with a keyboard and notebooks; 80 cm suits only a laptop and a cup.
Desk height and chair height
The standard 75 cm desk height is calculated for an adult. It suits a child only together with a height adjustable chair, and a footrest if their feet do not reach the floor. Chairs for that are in Chairs for schoolchildren.
About a shelf hutch. It saves space on the desktop but takes away light if the desk faces a wall with no window. In a dark room it is better to take a desk without one and hang a shelf to the side rather than above the working area.
