| Where the saving is | What it means in practice |
|---|---|
| Carcass material | Laminated board instead of solid wood and veneer. There is barely a difference in strength; the difference is that a chip in board cannot be restored, while solid wood can be sanded. |
| Board thickness | 16 mm instead of 18 or 22. On a shelf holding books you notice it; on a cupboard door you do not. |
| Hardware | Plain hinges instead of soft close, roller runners instead of ball bearing. It works the same, but louder and for fewer cycles. |
| Back panel | Thin HDF instead of board. It affects carcass rigidity if the unit is tall. |
| Size | A smaller body, less material. The most honest reason of all. |
What you will find
Shelves and shelving, shoe cabinets, bookcases, chests and units, computer desks, chairs. The factories are the same as in the rest of the catalogue: Helvetia and ASM Meble from Poland, Fores Habitat from Spain, KURATOR and YIRON from Israel. This is not a separate budget line but the lower price band of the ordinary range.
Where not to economise. On anything that opens and closes every day: the doors of a hallway cabinet, the drawers of a bedroom chest, the mechanism of a sofa bed. Hardware wears by the number of cycles, and it is what decides whether a piece lasts three years or ten. On something that simply stands there, like a shelf or a shelving unit, economising costs you almost nothing.
