Glass dining tables

Dining tables in tempered glass: round, oval and extendable

A glass table is chosen for one property that neither wood nor board has: it does not crowd the room, because the eye passes straight through it.

Where that decides things

In a small kitchen and in a room where the table stands in a walkway. A heavy wooden top visually cuts the space in half, while a transparent one leaves the floor visible and the room reads whole. The same effect works with the chairs: beside a glass table you can put substantial chairs and the arrangement still does not turn heavy.

Property	What it means
Absorbs nothing	Neither wine nor grease nor marker leaves a trace. It wipes dry in a second.
Unbothered by heat	Tempered glass takes hot dishes better than lacquer or veneer.
Everything shows	Every fingerprint, every crumb and the dust beneath the top. You will wipe it more often than wood, not less.
Sound	Crockery is louder on glass. Placemats solve that entirely.

About safety. The tops are tempered glass: many times stronger than ordinary glass, and when it does break it crumbles into blunt pieces rather than shards with a cutting edge. But tempered glass has a weak point few people know about: it fears a point impact on the edge, not on the face. You can knock on the surface; catching the rim with the corner of a pan is what to avoid.
