| Type | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Display cabinet | Glazed doors, shelves inside. For crockery, books, collections. The contents are always visible, so order has to be kept there. |
| Chest of drawers | Drawers, a solid front. For linen, papers, small things. Nobody sees what is inside, but neither do you until you pull it open. |
A working rule: a drawer beats a shelf for anything smaller than a plate. A shelf beats a drawer for anything taller than 20 cm. That is why one room often needs both pieces rather than one bigger one.
A chest going under a window is measured to the sill, not to the ceiling. A standard chest is 80 to 90 cm tall and will not fit under a low sill. The height is given on the product page.
