Dining sets with a ceramic table top

Ceramic dining sets in Israel: a table with 4 or 6 chairs

A ceramic slab covers exactly what ruins a dining table soonest: a hot pan, spilled wine, a knife used without a board.

How ceramic differs from an ordinary top

Ceramic is kiln fired, and the surface comes out non porous. Red wine, beetroot and turmeric wipe off instead of soaking in: on a printed panel or on lacquered wood the same spill leaves a mark. A hot pan can go straight onto the table, where lacquer would cloud over. The knife score that stays on melamine does not appear on ceramic.

What to know in advance

Ceramic is hard but brittle at the edge. Catching a corner on a doorframe while carrying it in chips the rim, and unlike a chip in wood that cannot be polished out. The slab is heavy, which is why such tables sit on a metal base and are easier to carry in with two people. And a dropped glass breaks on ceramic more often than on wood: the surface has no give.
