What it gives

One level with an upstand and a closed back at 22 cm deep. Books stand spine outward, and frames or small vases do not slide toward the wall. The shelf earns its place where the wall above a unit stays empty and the arrangement looks unfinished.

Where it belongs

Above the television unit or the chest of the collection. At 24 cm it has presence and reads as a piece rather than a narrow batten. White keeps it in the same range as the carcasses, though the matt surface is calmer than gloss.
