| Type | What it means in practice |
|---|---|
| Filter jug | Nothing to install. Capacity 2.4 to 4.2 litres, filled by hand. For one or two people and for a rented flat. |
| Under sink flow filter | Plumbed into the supply, water comes through immediately with no waiting. A separate tap on the sink. For a family. |
| Reverse osmosis | The deepest filtration. Needs a storage tank and space under the sink, and some water goes to the drain. |
| Filter bottle | Filters as you go, 0.5 litre. For work, the gym and travel rather than the home. |
What matters specifically in Israel
The main everyday problem with the water here is visible to the eye: limescale on the kettle, on the tap and on the shower glass. Those are hardness salts, and they are also what gives the taste and the sediment in a cup. The second point concerns reverse osmosis: the membrane holds back almost everything, minerals included, which is why AQUAPHOR offers modules with added magnesium such as MAXFOR+ Mg and Pro Mg. If you go for osmosis, check which module the chosen system is fitted with.
Replacement cartridges are not a detail but half the cost of ownership. A jug is cheap, but the cartridge is changed every six to eight weeks, and over a year that adds up. An under sink system costs more up front, but its modules last from six months. Before choosing, look at the replacement cartridges for the specific model: that is the real price of the filter.
The brand
Every system in this section is AQUAPHOR. One brand means cartridges are interchangeable within the range and do not have to be hunted down across different suppliers.
