INDYGO TV Unit 138 cm – three drawers for everything that gathers by the television, beige front

A low, wide unit for a television: 138 cm across and only 49 cm high, so the screen sits at a comfortable level for the sofa. Inside are three drawers on metal ball-bearing full-extension runners, and they solve the main problem of a living room: remotes, cables, chargers and discs stop living out in the open. The top stays clear for the television itself or a speaker.

In beige the lower half comes out lighter than both the screen and the wall. Under a dark screen a light base works in your favour, and the unit does not merge into the wall as one dark mass.

Who it suits

For a living room where the television stands on a unit rather than hanging on the wall: 138 cm suits a 55 inch screen with room to spare at the sides. For a bedroom with a smaller screen, when the chest of drawers is already full of clothes. For a child's or teenager's room as low storage for games, a console and anything that has to be tidied away fast.

What you will like

• Three drawers on metal ball-bearing full-extension runners: each pulls out completely, so nothing disappears against the back panel
• Slim metal handles in matt gold that stay in the background
• 49 cm high, putting the screen at the eye level of someone sitting rather than above it
• 40 cm deep: the unit does not push into the room, yet a screen stand sits firmly on it
• Laminated board that resists scratches from equipment
• It builds into a complete living room with the chest, wall shelf and coffee table of the same collection

Sizes and what fits

In numbers that is 138 cm along the wall, 49 cm high and 40 cm deep. Three full-length drawers take remotes, cables, chargers, headphones, board games and the paperwork that tends to collect in a living room. The clear 138 cm top holds a television on its stand and still leaves space for a soundbar or a couple of decorative pieces.

Materials and build

Body and top in laminated chipboard, edges banded all round, and a surface that takes a damp cloth without trouble. Hardware is metal throughout: ball-bearing runners and matt gold handles. GALA MEBLE has manufactured in Poland since 1980. Warranty 12 months.

How wide should a TV unit be? The rule is simple: the unit should be wider than the screen so the television never overhangs the edges. At 138 cm INDYGO RTV1S comfortably carries a screen up to 55 inches, and with a 43 to 50 inch television there is room at the sides for a speaker or books.

Where do the cables go? The back panel is solid, so cables are led out at the side along the wall, while power bricks and an extension lead go into the bottom drawer. Full extension gives you enough reach to get to the socket without pulling the unit away from the wall.

Assembly and delivery

The unit arrives flat-packed with instructions and all the fittings. There are many parts and the drawers need aligning in one line, so it is easier to order assembly with delivery: the fitter builds it in place and takes the packaging away. Delivery and assembly are quoted by address and paid separately from the product. Polish furniture can be ordered online, with no trip to a showroom.
