What to look for on the product page
| Feature | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Height adjustment | The main thing you are paying for here. A child outgrows a fixed height within a year or two. |
| Backrest | A schoolchild needs lumbar support just as much as an adult does. A back up to the shoulder blades is enough; a headrest is not required for homework. |
| Mesh back | More important in the Israeli climate than it sounds: the child sits down after school, at the hottest hour of the day. |
| Castors | Convenient, but on smooth tiles a child starts rolling about instead of working. Some models come without them. |
About buying one to grow into. An adult chair fails a child not on height but on seat depth. If the seat is deeper than the child thigh, they either perch on the edge with no back support or slide forward. Height can be lowered; depth cannot. Check the seat depth on the product page, it is given in centimetres.
