| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Frame | Wood and metal survive heavy use better than board: joints can be tightened rather than the whole piece replaced. |
| Armrests | In a waiting area they are needed not for comfort but for standing up. People sit and rise dozens of times a shift. |
| Seat depth | A shallow seat beats a deep one. For twenty minutes a deep seat is awkward: you either slide forward or perch on the edge. |
| Upholstery | The denser the fabric, the longer it holds its look. A loose weave in a shared area wears through at the front edge within a year. |
Arrangement
Chairs in a waiting area are not placed hard against one another: leave 20 to 30 cm between them, or strangers will sit every other seat and the effective capacity halves. A seating set with a coffee table in the middle works better than a row: the table sets the distance by itself.
Some models here also suit a home, and they can be seen in Living room armchairs, where the same range is looked at from a domestic point of view.
