To the eye the difference barely registers; in the price it does, and for many that settles it: the money goes into the number of chairs rather than the thickness of the top.

Who it suits

A dining room that needs a big table while the budget also has to cover chairs, a cabinet and delivery. A household of four to six who see guests at holidays rather than every week. And anyone furnishing a whole room in JANTAR: table, display cabinet and chest in one finish look like a set although they are bought separately.

Size and how many will sit

Closed it is 160 cm, extending to 240, 90 cm deep and 76 cm high. Six sit comfortably around it closed, up to ten when extended. The height of 76 cm is standard, so any ordinary dining chair suits it.

How it sits in the room

Reckon by the room rather than the table: with chairs and a walkway the closed table wants an area of about 320 by 250 cm. If it is only extended at holidays, check where the chairs will go on those days and whether the extended end will meet a cupboard.

The support here is neither a column nor crossed trestles but four plain legs at the corners. That matters more than it seems: sitting at the end of a pedestal table is awkward, whereas a chair can be pulled up to this one from any side.
