JANTAR II table: a top of solid oak

The senior dining table of the collection, and it differs in exactly one respect, though the important one: the top here is not veneered board but solid oak. The factory price list records it on a separate line and the model costs more. Solid timber behaves differently: the figure runs right through, the edge does not fear knocks, and in time such a top can be sanded back.

Who it suits

A family that eats at the table every day and knows what that does to a top. Anyone who entertains: extended, the table seats twice as many as when closed. And anyone to whom it matters that this is real timber rather than a picture on board: the difference shows on the edge.

Size and how many will sit

Closed the table is 160 by 90 cm at 76 cm high; extended the length is 240 cm. Reckoning sixty centimetres per person, six sit around it closed and up to ten extended. A depth of 90 cm lets dishes stand down the centre without crowding those opposite.

How it sits in the room

Space is needed round the table to pull a chair back: eighty centimetres per side is the usual reckoning. So the closed table wants an area of about 320 by 250 cm, and the extended one eighty centimetres more in length. The factory does not describe how the extension mechanism works and we are asking the supplier.
